Splotch Tiger Stripe: Frederick A. Short, US Navy

Tiger Stripe in Coarse/Splotch pattern

Period Pictures:

Tigerstripe is the name of a group of camouflage patterns developed for close-range use in dense jungles during jungle warfare by the South Vietnamese Armed Forces and adopted in late 1962 to early 1963 by US Special Forces during the Vietnam War. It derives its name from its resemblance to a tiger’s stripes and was simply called “tigers.”

This Tiger Stripes in Coarse/Splotch pattern, attributed to Frederick Alan Short, a PFC-94 (Patrol Craft Fast / Swift Boats) member.

GMG3 stands for Gunner’s Mate (Guns) Petty Officer 3rd Class (Explain why it’s stenciled “Gunner” inside of the shirt).

Highlighted:
-Stenciled “Short” (name), right front pocket.
-Stenciled “Swift” as a reference to Swift Boats, left front pocket.
-Stenciled “Sat Cong” in left sleeves.
-Stenciled “Gunner, Short F” inside of the jacket.
